Willington Local History Group Summer Visits - 2019

Our first summer visit took the form of a guided tour round Tempsford ending with time to take tea and cake and look at the Tempsford Museum and Archives.  The museum and archives in the Stuart Memorial Hall are open from 2 pm to 4 pm on the first Sunday of each month apart from January. There is a fascinating collection of photos, documents and artefacts from the village and surrounding area. One of the highlights of the guided tour was a visit to Gannocks Castle, a medieval moated site just off the main village street. We followed this with a visit to Wardown House Museum  and Gallery in Wardown Park, on the outskirts of Luton town centre. The house was formerly the home of the Scargill family, was later used as a military hospital and is now an excellent museum and gallery. Our final summer visit was to Ely to see the cathedral and the Stained Glass Museum. This followed up an earlier talk from the museum’s director/curator Jasmine Allen. We had an interesting day and benefitted from the informative guided tours provided for us.
